I didn’t know it back then, but studying engineering at Stanford, honing my problem-solving skills, could not have been better preparation for my career as a financial advisor. My experience as a college football referee has taught me to prepare for the unexpected and, above all, to remain calm, even when those around me are panicking. More than 25 years of marriage while raising a daughter and a son has reminded me that we have two ears and one mouth for a reason: While many advisors have the gift of gab, I’m known for being an active listener.
